Obituary of Vera Sophie Braudo

Please share a memory of Vera to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vera Sophie Perlstein Braudo, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2015. Vera led a long and fruitful life, including her 38 years in Johannesburg, 1 year in Edinborough, 1 year in Boston and 50 years in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Vera's love and passionate dedication to family and friends alike were values she taught by example to her 5 children and 7 grandchildren (including Richard & Pam's newborn Keira Martine Braudo who Granny did get to meet in person). Her love and passion for literature, poetry and history, academically and as an avid lifelong reader were shared with family and friends. Her love for learning and intellectual exercise through reading and writing in her earlier years were an inspiration to her children. Her joyful involvement in sports (especially tennis and bike riding) and other forms of exercise (including yoga) were shared with and inculcated in her children. Vera's unabashed joy for and talent in cooking and baking were exhibited daily to her family for 40+ years and at least monthly to friends in regularly hosting dinner parties for 30 years in the mid-1950s-1970s. Until the very last days of her life Vera continued to maintain her marvellous sense of humour (wit) and wits about her. We will always cherish the unconditional love and values (family, friendship, academic endeavour, intellectual & sports/physical exercise) mom/granny imbued upon us. Vera Perlstein Braudo was truly a woman of valour, who overcame the tragic loss of her first born child Martin (may he be at peace) without anger or self-pity, but with strength, grace and dignity. Vera is survived by her children Andy, Richard, Stephen and Susan Braudo Maman, and grandchildren (Rebecca and James, Keira, Briana & Ryan, and Jordan & Monique, who invite you to share in a memorial celebration of her life to be held at her former Glencoe, Illinois residence - 63 Crescent Drive - on Sunday August 2nd from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements by McMurrough Funeral Chapel (847) 362-2626.
