Obituary of Gary Fitzgibbons

Gary Fitzgibbons, 65, of Vernon Hills passed away on September 9, 2015 after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born in Northfield, IL, the only child to Elizabeth and Joseph Fitzgibbons. Gary attended Loyola Academy in Wilmette and graduated from the University of Notre Dame, where he was a member of the soccer team. Gary was very active at St. Mary’s of Vernon Parish. He served on the pastoral counsel, as a Eucharistic minister, and taught catechism classes for many years. He enjoyed spending his free time with his children and grandchildren, watching Notre Dame football, and watching movies. Gary is survived by his loving children Kelly (Jeff) Vergamini, Patrick (Mindy) Fitzgibbons, Erin Fitzgibbons and Ryan Fitzgibbons. He was the proud grandfather of Jack, PJ, Ashley and Michael. Visitation for Gary will be held Tuesday, September 15th from 4-8 pm at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place (Rt 176, 1 Block East of Milwaukee Ave) Libertyville and Wednesday one hour before Mass at St. Mary of Vernon. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 16th at 10:00 am at St. Mary of Vernon, 236 East Highway 45, Indian Creek. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Road, Libertyville. There will be a luncheon at Jimmy’s Charhouse with sharing of stories and remembrances.
